Just Tell Us!
Jul 13, 2026One of my biggest pet peeves is when I ask someone to repeat what they said and they flat out ignore the request or make me feel bad for asking.
I'm already working twice as hard as you to understand your speech. Yes, I have hearing aids, but they aren't magic. You need to meet me halfway and speak clearly, make sure there isn't background noise, enough lighting and so many other factors that alleviate the burden of communication. Most hearing people expect Deaf/HoH people to do all the work. Why not try accommodating us for a change?
It would be extremely helpful if hearing people were more compassionate toward us and were willing to repeat if necessary, without it being a whole thing.
