Inside Look at Bake it with Sass

Bake it with Sass was created out of love for baking and my Deaf community. People don't realize how inaccessible the world is. We live in a hearing-centric world, and because many people don't stop to think about just how diverse this planet is, they often overlook us.

For example: YouTube tutorials. Whenever I want to learn how to do something, whether it's finding where the transmission oil goes in my car or making pretzels, without accurate captions, I am lost. If I want to take a cooking class or glass blowing, I can't because 9/10 the organizers don't want or "can't" pay for an interpreter. This means it's harder for me to learn something new.

Bake it with Sass is different! We strive to make sure everyone can feel empowered to learn how to bake from scratch! Throughout the video or live class, The Sassy Baker gives baking tips and encourages bakers not give up! Every baking video either has captions or an English interpreter provided.

Baking is a passion of mine, and my goal is to elevate your baking skills, whether you've never baked before or are looking for a new challenge!

My grandmother and my mom baked from scratch. Box mixes were banned from their kitchens. Everything from birthday cakes to brownies was made with love from scratch. I never realized that was a luxury until I grew up. So many of my friends were never taught and it occured to me that this was a valuable skill that I could help with.

IN 2020, this started out as a YouTube channel and in 2023, became Bake it with Sass. Since then, I have made two video libraries for beginngers (New Sass on the Block) and for those wanting a challenge (Beyond Sassy). I also started offering monthly virtual classes as well as in person (Denver, Colorado area) classes at least twice a year.

Hosting in person classes has been challenging due to many places not allowing us to utilize their ovens for liability reasons. This is why I don't host more than two or three per year. If you have ideas on where I might be able to rent a space with ovens in the Denver Metro Area, please email [email protected].
